For this assignment we were asked to use Plot.ly to create a visual that showcases the parts and whole of a data set. The data were were given contained 2 variables: Time and Position. Because This outcome of the data relies on time I thought it to be important to showcase the data in some form of a line plot. I also had to figure out how to highlight the parts and whole of the data.
My final product is an area map that uses color to show the “whole” of the data over time, but also has a definitive line with points to show the “parts” of the data. I adjusted the size of the points by time and the color of the points by position in order to define the the individual data points and exaggerate the separation of part to whole within the data, while still displaying the progressive time series that naturally occurs in the data. I just wish the data provided units of the time and position so that the scale could be interpreted better on the plot.
